Bayern Munich forwards Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane had a physical altercation in the dressing room after the 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League, German media reported on Wednesday.
According to Bild, Sky Germany and a number of other media sources, the two players clashed after the match and needed to be separated by teammates.
Bild has also reported that Mane has admitted his mistake with a decision on the matter set to be communicated later today.
“A meeting with the club's bosses took place this morning, in which both Leroy Sané and Sadio Mané were present. The club also held talks with Mané's management. A decision could be communicated after today's training. The Senegalese has allegedly admitted his error,” Bild reported on Thursday.
Additionally, German reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed that “Bayern players were shocked by the incident between Mane and Sane. Several players are critical of Mane and don't expect him to stay at the club for long”.
Meanwhile, another reporter Kerry Hau said that Mane felt provoked by Sane during the game. The Senegalese insulted Sane and then punched him in the face.
All kind of possible consequences, fine, suspension or even separation, are being discussed at the moment, Plettenberg added.
Former City winger Sane was hit in the face by the Senegal international, suffering a cut lip.
Bayern declined requests to comment on the altercation on Wednesday.
The clash started in the dying stages of Bayern´s loss in Manchester on Tuesday, with footage showing the two arguing on the pitch.
The loss was Bayern´s biggest Champions League defeat since 2017.
The six-time European champions now have little hope of turning over the deficit in Wednesday´s return leg in Munich to make it to the semi-finals.
"The result doesn't reflect the game. We showed real character. We played well for the first 20 minutes of the second half, but weren't rewarded. We went behind to a long-range goal. The reaction was very good, even more so in the second half. We tried to swing the momentum back in our favour. Obviously, everyone is disappointed. It didn't feel like a 3-0 loss, but that's what it is. It's a big ask to turn it around, but we won't give up. A home game in Germany is a home game in Germany. It's not over until it's over,” manager Thomas Tuchel said after the first leg.
