Australia batter David Warner has been ruled out of the final two Tests of the four-match series against India due to a concussion and a fractured elbow.
After being hit on the helmet on day two of the second Test in Delhi last week, Warner was substituted by Matt Renshaw.
The left-handed batter, who was earlier struck on the elbow, will go back to Australia for treatment.
Warner is expected to return to India for the three one-day international matches beginning on March 17, according to Cricket Australia.
In the first two Tests, the former vice-captain scored just 26 runs over three innings.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was also ruled out of the series after an Achilles injury that held him out of the first two Test matches.
On the other hand, due to a family illness, skipper Pat Cummins has flown back to Australia, but he is anticipated to be back for the third Test, which starts on March 1 in Indore.
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc might be available following a finger ailment, all-rounder Cameron Green has fully recovered from his finger injury, and leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson, who travelled back home after the first Test for the birth of his first child, is scheduled to fly back to India.
It is worth mentioning here that India put up a flawless effort on the third day of the Delhi Test to grab a commanding 2-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
India beat Australia by six wickets, thanks to a seven-wicket haul by Ravindra Jadeja that set a career-high.
The opening session was controlled by India's spinner, who dismissed Australia for 113. With six wickets in hand, the hosts successfully completed the chase.
India now leads the four-match Test series 2-0 and will keep the Border-Gavaskar Trophy no matter how the last two Tests turn out.
