Karachi beat Lahore by 67 runs at home ground

Shahid Afridi interacts with Karachi Kings' players after their maiden victory in PSL 8 - Karachi Kings

Former Test cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi was impressed by Karachi Kings' comeback in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8.

After Kings' 67-run victory over Lahore Qalandars in Karachi on Sunday, Afridi said Imad Wasim's team has bounced back in good fashion.

"Karachi won a great game. This win was very important for them and they did really well to make a comeback," he said.

"Lahore is a good team, winning against them will definitely boost Karachi's confidence. They should now continue this performance and remain in PSL," he added.

Under the captaincy of Imad, Kings started their PSL 8 campaign on three back-to-back defeats. They lost to Peshawar Zalmi in their opening game at home followed by losses against Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators.

A change in leadership also didn't work for Kings as they lost 13 out of 14 games before today, including last season. Imad returned as captain after Babar Azam was traded with Shoaib Malik from Zalmi.

On the other hand, Afridi refused to praise any of the youngster such as Saim Ayub at this stage.

"It's too early to talk about any youngster. Don't give players hype after single performance. Let them play and prove themselves. After PSL, I will be able to talk about them," he concluded.

Shahid Afridi lashes out at Wasim Akram

Earlier, Shahid Afridi lashed out at Wasim Akram after his team Karachi Kings lost three back-to-back matches in PSL 8.

Speaking in a television show, Afridi said Akram should fulfil his responsibility and give his time to Kings.

"Wasim Bhai should give time to Karachi Kings if he has taken responsibility. It's not possible to lead the team from Australia. It's part of professionalism to give the team your time," he highlighted.

The closing ceremony and final of PSL 8 will be played on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host play-offs.

The winner will not only lift the Supernova Trophy but will also collect a cheque of Rs120m, while the runners-up will receive a cheque of Rs48m.

Lahore Qalandars will attempt to become the first side to win back-to-back titles; meanwhile Islamabad United will aim to become the most successful side by lifting the trophy thrice.

Rawalpindi will stage 11 fixtures, Karachi and Lahore will host nine matches each, whereas Multan will have five home games.
