Inter Miami are reportedly considering the signing Argentina’s Alexis Cuello to bolster their attack, featuring compatriot Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, for the upcoming season of the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Cuello, 24, delivered an outstanding performance while representing Argentine club San Lorenzon, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in 36 matches.
According to an Indian media outlet, Inter Miami's new manager, Javeir Mascherano, is a big admirer of Cuello.
He is expected to be an ideal replacement for Leonardo Campana, who has joined the New England Revolution.
It is pertinent to mention that the young forward is set to join San Lorenzo for €1 million from Almagro soon but can be tempted to leave the deal by the prospects of joining Messi’s Inter Miami.
Reflecting on the Inter Miami's struggles, the former United States International Herculez Gomez criticised the Lionel Messi's side for failing to win the domestic double.
"Inter Miami has the best player of all time on their roster, who by the way is league's [Most Valuable Player] MVP. They gave you the keys of the kingdom, not to bow out in three games to Atlanta United, to a ninth place team [in the Eastern Conference table], to Rob Valentino who no longer is the team interim coach at Atlanta. In three games, they couldn't beat [goalkeeper] Brad Guzan," he said.
"It's one of the biggest failures in MLS' history and you damn well know. Every executive, [MLS commissioner] Don Garber, whatever hair he had on top of his head was pulling it out, you had one job. It's one of the biggest failures I've seen in North American sports in quite some time."
Despite winning their maiden MLS Supporters' Shield in October, Inter Miami failed to progress beyond the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs.
The Mascherano-led side is set to play their next campaign in February 2025.
