LAHORE: Former New Zealand cricketer Colin Munro has registered for the much-anticipated Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 player draft, the franchise league announced on Saturday.
The PSL made the announcement by sharing a compilation video, of Munro’s batting exploits during his previous appearances at the league.
The left-handed batter made his PSL debut against Karachi Kings in the 2018 edition, and from then onwards, until 2024, he represented three-time tournament champions Islamabad United.
The 37-year-old has vast experience in this franchise league, having played 47 matches and scored 1,417 runs at an average of 32.95 and a strike rate of 150.58, including 12 half-centuries.
In the 2024 edition of the PSL, which Shadab-led Islamabad United won by defeating Multan Sultans, Munro was exceptional with the bat, scoring 326 runs in 10 matches, which included three fifties and was the sixth-highest run-scorer in the tournament.
Notably, Munro is the 13th foreign player to have signed up for the upcoming 10th edition of the marquee league, joining Daryl Mitchell, England's Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Tom Curran, David Willey, Dawid Malan and Jason Roy, Australia’s Alex Carey and Usman Khawaja, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza.
It is pertinent to mention that the highly-anticipated player draft will be held in Balochistan for the first time, with Gwadar hosting the key event on January 11, 2025.
The pick order for the player draft has also been announced, with two-time champions Lahore Qalandars making the first pick in the opening round of the platinum category, followed by arch-rivals Karachi Kings.
2019 champions Quetta Gladiators will make the third pick, while Peshawar Zalmi will have the fourth.
Last season’s runners-up, Sultans, and reigning champions United will make the fifth and sixth picks, respectively.
