Novak Djokovic made an honest admission after suffering a shock 4-6, 6-0, 1-6 defeat in the semi-final of Gevena Cup against Tomas Machac saying that he is worried as Roland Garros is set to begin on May 26.
Djokovic made his way into Geneva Open after accepting a wildcard entry which came as a shock to many tennis enthusiasts. However, his defeat against Machac has now raised many questions about whether the Serb will be able to compete at the highest level or not.
Machac won arguably the biggest match of his career as he made his way into the Geneva Cup final. The Czech made an impressive comeback after losing the second set as Djokovic could only win one game in the third set.
Talking after the match, Djokovic admitted that he is worried about his form as he hasn’t won a trophy this year and missed multiple tournaments as well.
“Of course I’m worried. I haven’t played well at all this year, apart from a few matches here and there,” said Djokovic. “Things are what they are. I don’t see myself as a favourite in Paris. I will try to take the matches one after the other.
“I didn’t have a great night, and today was tough. I had horrible feelings during the first part of the match. I don’t want to take any credit away from Tomas [Machac], who deserved his victory, but I don’t know what to think of this match. I prefer to forget it.
“I don’t know how I was able to win the second set either. I was hoping to play more than one match when I came here, and I played three. But I wish I could feel better.
“It’s not nice to suffer like that on the court. It’s hard to concentrate on tennis when you have other things on your mind. I just hope to be ready and in good health for Roland-Garros.”
Remember, Djokovic won three Grand Slams last year including the French Open and he is aiming for his record-extending 25th major this year.
