Real Madrid aim to begin negotiations for Bayern Munich’s full back Alphonso Davies at €35m but they know it could rise to €50m, according to Spanish radio network Cadena SER.
It has already been reported that Madrid have a verbal agreement with the Bundesliga star.
The left-back could join the Whites in 2024 or 2025 since Madrid are willing to do a deal for a below-market price this summer — similar to Toni Kroos’ move in 2014 — or next year when Davies’ contract ends, like David Alaba in 2021.
Earlier, Madrid’s chief scout Juni Calafat and director general Jose Angel Sanchez had asked Davies’ camp not to renew his contract with Bayern, which expires in 2025, so he can join them.
The two parties had numerous meetings in recent weeks, including one in person in Madrid in mid-February, which have expedited the process further.
Madrid’s rivals Barcelona, as well as clubs in England, were interested in Davies but the 23-year-old’s preference at this stage is to switch to Madrid.
The Bundesliga champions are still trying to convince Davies to extend and have decided against accepting offers for potential replacements for the Canadian in recent months with the two clubs yet to open negotiations.
Bayern don’t want to see Davies go for free, however, and will look to maximise a fee for him in a sale this summer if they are unable strike a deal on fresh terms.
Davies, who was roped in by Bayern from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019, has made 180 appearances for the club. He has also won the Bundesliga title five times and was part of the Champions League-winning team in 2020.
He has featured 31 times in all competitions for Bayern this season, scoring one goal and notching up three assists.
