Manchester United is keeping a close eye on the Bayer Leverkusen pair Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba. The club would consider selling two players to acquire the services of these defenders, metro.co.uk reported.

Tapsoba and Frimpong have been pivotal components of Xabi Alonso's squad this season, and their performances have garnered attention across Europe.

Leverkusen defeated rivals Bayern Munich 3-0 on Saturday, securing a five-point lead at the summit of the Bundesliga table.

Frimpong, a Dutch international, netted the third goal after coming off the bench, with Tapsoba in the starting lineup.

The Dutchman was on Manchester United's wishlist in 2023, as Erik ten Hag sought to acquire a more attacking-minded right-back to challenge Diogo Dalot.

Despite this interest, United opted to postpone plans to sign Frimpong due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka's impressive mid-season form.

However, with Wan-Bissaka's contract set to expire in 2025, the Manchester Evening News reports that United are open to selling him this summer to pave the way for Frimpong.

Tapsoba, a centre-back, had garnered interest from Tottenham last summer. The 25-year-old chose to stay in Germany.

However, his performances this campaign have been excellent, and it is suggested that United may consider selling Victor Lindelof to accommodate Tapsoba. Lindelof, like Wan-Bissaka, has 18 months left on his contract.

Hence, this summer is likely the final opportunity for the club to secure a good transfer fee for the Swedish international.

Jonny Evans, 36, is also set to be out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to be released.
