Manchester United face high-flying Aston Villa in a crucial Premier League encounter at the Villa Park on Sunday but they are likely to be without five players.

Erik Ten Hag’s side is unbeaten since the start of 2024 as in five matches played so far, the Red Devils won four and drew one and they are currently heading to Villa Park to face a big challenge.

Man Utd sit sixth on the points table with 38 points from 23 matches while Villa are fourth with an eight-point lead over their next opponents in the same number of matches.

Lisandro Martinez became the latest player to join United’s growing injury list after he suffered a knee injury during a 3-0 win against West Ham.

"It's a setback of course," said Ten Hag about the 2022 World Cup winner. "You see his contribution to the team when he's playing.

"Apart from his technical skills, he also bring mentality into our team, but it's a big setback. He's disappointed, but he's a fighter, he will be back and he will be back stronger."

Apart from Martinez, Tyrell Malacia (knee) and England regular Mason Mount (calf) remain on the treatment table. Anthony Martial (groin) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are also the ones who will be watching the match from home as they are yet to return to training.

Wan-Bissaka was expected to complete his recovery for the Villa game but the English right-back was met with a setback.

Ten Hag confirmed in his pre-match conference that he tried to train before the match but had to leave training.

"I don't know in this moment what the diagnosis is," said Ten Hag. "Hopefully not too bad."

Remember, Man United have been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after finishing last in their group, while they exited the Carabao Cup after losing to Newcastle United 3-0 back in November 2023.
