Novak Djokovic became an apparent problem for the young generation in the 2023 season as the Serb not just clinched three Grand Slams, he did it by beating top players in the finals.
Djokovic started 2023 by beating Stefano Tsitsipas at the Australian Open final in January. He then went on to defeat Casper Ruud at Roland Garros and at last, Daniil Medvedev at US Open final. Only Carlos Alcaraz was able to overcome the Serb as the Spaniard won his first-ever Wimbledon after a five-set battle.
Alcaraz has already stated that he would do “everything” in his power to stop Djokovic in 2024 and Medvedev became the latest addition to the club.
Medvedev revealed that he was mentally tired by the end of last season and was confident to do better next year as the Russian will arrive at the Australian Open without playing any tournament before.
“I try to be more and more professional to improve on the pitch. At the end of last season, I was mentally tired, so I hope to do better next year. Each season can be different. Stefanos Tsitsipas, for example, reached the final at the Australian Open and then, for various reasons, experienced a complicated season,” he said.
The 27-year-old admitted that the only certainty about next season is Djokovic finishing in the top 10, but he was also positive that he, with two or three other players, will stop the Serbian.
“But he can come back and overcome Djokovic, Alcaraz, Sinner and me. Last year I found myself outside the Top-10. The only thing we are sure of is that Novak is always there. I hope to be part, together with the other two or three, of the group of guys who will try to stop him.”
It must be noted that after winning the ATP Finals in November, the 36-year-old confirmed that he has no intention to stop and is now aiming for a “Golden Slam” — winning all major titles and a gold medal in the Olympics — for the next year.
