Left-handed pacer Mohammad Amir has reacted after he was picked by Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 Draft on Wednesday.
Amir was released by Karachi Kings after being part of the franchise since the first season, which was in 2016.
There were speculations that the left-handed pacer may go unpicked but Amir was Gladiators' second pick in the Platinum round.
Amir took to his X account and was grateful that he was picked by the 2019 PSL champions.
“And He honors whom He wills, and He disgraces whom He wills,” Amir shared a verse from the Qur'an.
Amir retired from international cricket in December 2020. He is actively playing leagues across the world and has no plans to return to international cricket as disclosed by Pakistan Team Director Hafeez who personally spoke to the left-arm pacer, encouraging him to engage in domestic cricket if he has the desire to represent Pakistan again.
“I called Mohammad Amir myself and said that if you want to play for Pakistan, you should take your retirement back and you should play domestic cricket," Hafeez said before leaving for Australia.
"If you perform well, you will be selected in the Pakistan team. Once you come into the team, I assure you that you will be given equal opportunities like others. However, he said that he has moved on in his life and his priorities have changed in life, which we have to respect,” Hafeez added.
During a media interaction earlier this year, Amir reiterated his retirement, stating his belief that it was time for the younger generation to come forward.
"I have retired now, how am I hopeful for my return? If I hadn't retired, I could have said that I am very hopeful, but now I have retired. Now I have grown old, and there are youngsters in the team," Amir had said.
