Pakistan currently boast the highest catch efficiency in the ICC World Cup 2023, having successfully held onto 31 of the 37 opportunities that have come their way.
As reported by the ICC, Pakistan has only put down six catches, establishing themselves as the most accomplished catching team. In a graphic presented during the India-Sri Lanka match, Pakistan is closely followed by the Netherlands, who have a catch success rate of 86 per cent.
Initially, when the list was first published on October 18, Babar Azam's team had a catch efficiency of 79 per cent. However, they have since improved their performance in this area, despite experiencing a series of defeats. Pakistan endured four consecutive losses before finally breaking the streak with a comfortable victory at Eden Gardens against Bangladesh.
Among the six catches that Pakistan missed, two were particularly costly. Imam-ul-Haq failed to hold on to Kusal Mendis of Sri Lanka when he was on 18, and Mendis went on to score an impressive 123. In the match against Australia, Usama Mir missed an easy catch from David Warner when he was on 10, and Warner proceeded to amass 150 more runs. While Pakistan managed to secure a record run chase against Sri Lanka, they were unable to recover after Warner's onslaught.
The Netherlands have missed six catches out of 33 opportunities, and India has also let go of six catches out of 25. India, England, and South Africa all maintain a catch efficiency of 81 per cent in the World Cup, with Bangladesh following closely with a success rate of 76 per cent.
On the other hand, Australia, Afghanistan, and New Zealand are at the bottom of the table with a catch efficiency of 71 per cent. Australia has managed to seize 17 out of 29 catches that came their way, while Afghanistan has only held onto 12 of the 20 chances presented to them. New Zealand, however, has dropped 16 out of 40 opportunities.
Previously, Virat Kohli was recognised as the most influential fielder at the World Cup, achieving a rating point of 22.30.
